When Julie brings two wolf pups home in village near Barrow, Alaska, her younger brother, Amaroq, takes care of one, Nutik, and falls in love with it, even thought he is warned not to so his heart will not be broken when the wolves come to take it back home.a. The illustrations are full color, watercolor with charcoal. The story and illustrations are heartwarming. This is a picture book sequel to Julie of the Wolves.
Activity: Use this as a starting part to learn about wolves or the seasons near the arctic circle and the moon cycles. What did it mean, "When the moon had changed from a crescent to a circle and back again?" How long is that? What did it mean when it said, "Summer came to the top of the world. The sun stayed up all day and all night for three beautiful months. Because of this, Amaroq and Nutik lived by a different clock. They fell asleep to the gabble of baby snow geese. They awoke to the raspy hiss of snowy owlets."
