After Fern rescues Wilbur, a runty pig, and sells him to her uncles farm, an unlikely friendship emerges between Wilbur and Charlotte, a spider, in an effort to save his life in the mid 1900’s. A tender narrative about friendship and the life cycle are formed from an omniscient point of view and the use of dialog and descriptions and soft pen sketched illustrations.
Activity: Have students write about which character they would like to be and why. Draw a scene out of the book.
