While digging holes at the juvenile detention camp Camp Green Lake in Texas in the late 20th century, Stanley Yelnats and Hector Zeroni become friends as they overcome the hardships of the desert as well as an ancient curse. They author’s use of 3rd person narrative from Stanley’s point of view as well as omniscient flashbacks that also foreshadow events help readers understand the hardship the boys went through as well as create a well written brilliant story of friendship and fate.
