The adventures of Tom Sawyer in the mid 1900’s in Missouri, lead he and his friend Huck Fin to witness a murder, save a man from trial, hunt for treasure, and hope not to be killed by Injun Joe. The descriptions and foreshadowing third person omniscient narration with insight into Tom’s thoughts combine with the black and white detailed watercolors and the colorful plates to give us a nostalgic and humorous adventures of a boy being a boy and some of the events that help him grow up.
Activity: Discuss Tom’s character at the beginning of the book and then again at the end. What events helped these changes occur? Write about what event in your life has helped you become the person that you are today?
