Martin, Bill Jr. Baby Bear, Baby Bear, What Do You See? Illus by Eric Carle. Henry Holt and Company, 2007, unp. Pre-K, Primary.

With the repeated the pattern and rhyme of “what do you see?” and “... looking at me” we explore ten great American Animals as a young bear searches for his mother. With the “What do you see?” being located at the top left of the pages and “looking at me” at the bottom right, the repeating text takes us from one page to the other and one animal to the next. The illustrations are done with cut paper collages. The papers has been painted then cut to give texture detail. The rich, colorful images and rhyme give us a heartfelt story of a bear’s search for his mother.

Activity: Come up with different verbs to describe the action that each of the animals is doing.
