What Do You Do With a Tail Like This?

Picture Book: Non-fiction, Concept Book
Animals, Tails, Body Parts

Jenkins, Steve and Robin Page. What Do You Do With a Tail Like This. Illus by Steve Jenkins. Houghton Mifflin Company, 2003, unp. Pre-K, Primary.

We explore the many amazing thins animals can do with their body parts. The bright, true to life, cut paper collage illustrations help us guess which animal the body part belong to then help us learn about their function. The colors are warm and the illustrations are inviting. It is a great book for teaching children about animals and the special things that different parts do for different animals.

Activities: Talk about how we use our body parts. Have each child draws an animal, from the book or otherwise, and then writes about what the different parts do for that animal.
